MultiVersus presented two last characters while fans threaten game developers
MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale in game development, a case study alongside the infamous Concord failure. Despite its impending closure, the game's final act unfolds with the reveal of two highly anticipated characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement, however, hasn't been met with universal acclaim. Significant fan frustration, some bordering on threats against the development team, has surfaced. In response, MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh issued a heartfelt message, pleading with players to refrain from directing threats at the team.
Huynh offered an apology to fans whose desired characters never made it into the game, expressing hope that they'll still find enjoyment in the final Season 5 content. He also explained the complex factors influencing character selection, emphasizing his limited control over these decisions, contrary to some fans' assumptions.
The impending shutdown has also ignited controversy regarding unspent in-game tokens. Players who purchased the premium $100 edition, promised bonus tokens, are unable to utilize them on the newly released characters. This unfulfilled promise likely contributed to the escalating negative sentiment and resulting threats.
