MindLight: New Android Neurofeedback Horror Survival Game

Diving into a haunted house filled with shadow creatures to rescue your grandmother might sound like a typical spooky adventure game, but MindLight by PlayNice is far from ordinary. This action-adventure game innovatively uses biofeedback to help children manage their stress and anxiety. But what exactly is biofeedback? It's a therapeutic technique that bridges the mind and body, enhancing both physical and mental well-being. In MindLight, your emotions directly influence the game environment: staying calm illuminates the dark mansion, while feeling anxious keeps it shrouded in shadows.

More Than Just a Game

MindLight was crafted in collaboration with Dr. Isabela Granic, the co-founder of PlayNice and a lead scientist who spearheaded numerous randomized control trials involving over a thousand children. The results were remarkable—kids who played MindLight saw their anxiety levels drop by at least 50%. The gameplay is straightforward yet engaging: you play as a child navigating your grandmother's mansion, which is engulfed by ominous shadows. With the help of a headset, the game monitors your brainwaves or heart rate in real-time, using light to guide you and fend off terrifying creatures.

Although primarily tested with children aged 8 to 12, MindLight has also captured the interest of older kids and parents. Its ability to adapt to the player's stress response ensures a personalized and dynamic experience for everyone.

Getting Started with MindLight

To embark on your MindLight journey, you'll need two essentials: the Neurosky MindWave 2 EEG headset and a subscription to the game. PlayNice offers two subscription options—one tailored for a single child, and another designed for families with up to five players. You can easily access MindLight through the Google Play Store, Amazon Store, Apple App Store, or directly from PlayNice's website.
