"Mass Effect 5 Graphics: Not Veilguard or Pixar Style"

by Julian May 05,2025

Mass Effect fans concerned about the direction of the franchise's next installment, especially in light of the stylistic choices seen in BioWare's upcoming Dragon Age: Veilguard, can rest easy. The project director for Mass Effect 5 has directly addressed these concerns, ensuring that the game will stay true to its roots.

Mass Effect's Mature Tone Lives On In Mass Effect 5

Mass Effect's Next Game Will Remain Photorealistic and Mature

The next chapter in the Mass Effect saga, tentatively titled "Mass Effect 5," will continue to embody the mature tone that defined the original trilogy. The series, launched by EA and BioWare, has been celebrated for its photorealistic visuals and compelling storytelling that tackles intense and cinematic themes, as noted by trilogy game director Casey Hudson.

With Dragon Age: Veilguard set to release on October 31, and its distinct visual style drawing comparisons to Disney or Pixar, fans have been vocal about their hopes for Mass Effect 5. Addressing these concerns, Michael Gamble, the project director and executive producer for Mass Effect 5, took to Twitter (X) to clarify the game's direction.

Gamble emphasized that despite being developed by the same studio, Mass Effect 5 will not adopt Veilguard's stylistic approach. "Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs...and has to have different kinds of love," he stated. He further reassured fans that "Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I'm gonna say for now."

Responding to the notion that Veilguard resembles Pixar's style, Gamble expressed his disagreement and affirmed that Mass Effect will remain photorealistic under his leadership. While specific details about Mass Effect 5 remain scarce, fans can be confident that the game will stay true to its established visual and thematic identity.

N7 Day 2024 Could Bring New Mass Effect 5 Trailer or Announcement

With N7 Day, also known as Mass Effect Day, approaching on November 7, anticipation is building for potential updates on Mass Effect 5. Historically, BioWare has used this day to make significant announcements related to the franchise. In 2020, they unveiled the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a remastered trilogy that thrilled the community.

Last year's N7 Day saw a series of cryptic posts that hinted at Mass Effect 5's storyline, potential character returns, and even the game's working title. These teasers included a mysterious character adorned in a full-face helmet and suit with an N7 logo, culminating in a 34-second clip. While no major updates have been shared since, fans are hopeful for a new teaser or significant announcement during N7 Day 2024.
