The set's full name suggests LEGO Mario Kart may expand as a sub-theme under the broader LEGO Mario line. This opens exciting possibilities - could we see similar large-scale builds featuring Luigi's Sports Coupe or Princess Peach's Cat Cruiser? While playset-sized kart versions exist, these premium display models would appeal to serious collectors.

Comprising 17 numbered bags, the set features two distinct builds. First comes the Standard Kart, built using a LEGO Technic framework reinforced with traditional bricks. Detailed body panels, including rocket exhaust pipes and functioning steering, attach via rods and clamps to complete the vehicle.
The steering mechanism particularly impresses with its dual functionality - attaching to the chassis while allowing front wheel movement. By turning the steering wheel, builders see the front wheels respond realistically through this clever hinge design.
Surprisingly complex construction belies the kart's simple appearance. Detailed steps accumulate to create the finished effect - a sophisticated build that retains appropriate childhood charm despite its technical execution.
Mario's construction follows similar techniques to 2022's The Mighty Bowser set. Starting with a torso, builders add arms, legs, and finally the iconic cap. The curved hat proves most challenging, requiring two specially shaped pieces to recreate Mario's signature look.
Building Mario reveals delightful details often overlooked - hair peeking beneath his cap, glove markings, and rolled jean cuffs. Like examining famous artwork, constructing this LEGO version makes you appreciate subtle design elements that contribute to the whole.
One limitation is Mario's permanent attachment to the kart. Without a standalone base, collectors can't display just the character. While likely a business decision, creative builders will surely devise modifications allowing separate display.
The included stand adds display flexibility, allowing 360-degree rotation to recreate racing poses. My Mario grips the wheel while raising his other fist triumphantly, perfectly capturing his energetic personality.
This set continues LEGO's excellent Mario-themed releases like The Mighty Bowser and Piranha Plant. The balance of build quality and display appeal makes it another standout, leaving me eager for more premium Mario creations.
