Uploaded to the YouTube channel "Lost Media Busters," the three-and-a-half-minute clip quickly went viral before being pulled down due to copyright claims from Warner Bros. Entertainment.

The teaser introduces a grittier, more mature take on the beloved characters. Blossom, portrayed by Chloe Bennet, grapples with burnout and stress in her adult life. Bubbles, played by Dove Cameron, leans into escapism through alcohol, while Buttercup, portrayed by Yana Perrault, embraces rebellion and challenges traditional gender norms. When the trio accidentally kills a man named Mojo, they flee their hometown of Townsville, only to return years later upon learning of their father, Professor Utonium's (Donald Faison), deteriorating health. Upon their return, they encounter Mojo's now-grown son, Jojo, who has risen to power as the mayor of Townsville. Jojo, driven by a desire for vengeance, has brainwashed the citizens and seeks retribution against the girls.

The trailer is packed with dark humor, including a quip from Bubbles referencing juggalos and Buttercup jokingly accusing Jojo of harboring a "hate-boner" for Blossom. Despite its edgy tone, CW confirmed to Variety that the footage is authentic but was never intended for public release.

This ambitious adaptation of *The Powerpuff Girls* began development in 2020 but faced numerous hurdles, including the shelving of an initial pilot and the departure of key cast members. CW Chairman Mark Pedowitz explained the decision to abandon the project, stating, "Sometimes things just don’t click. While we loved the talent involved, the pilot lacked the balance between campiness and realism we were aiming for. It wasn’t quite the grounded story we envisioned." He emphasized that lessons learned during testing led to the decision to return to the drawing board rather than move forward with the original concept.

Despite the series' cancellation, the leaked teaser reignites curiosity about what could have been—a darker, more complex take on the classic cartoon.
