Hyper Light Breaker boasts a diverse arsenal, and a solid weapon is crucial for any successful build. While starting with basic equipment, players unlock opportunities to acquire more fitting weapons throughout their gameplay. This guide explains how to obtain new weapons in Hyper Light Breaker, a game blending roguelike and extraction elements.

Acquiring New Weapons

New gear is primarily found by exploring Overgrowths. While exploration naturally yields new items, focusing on sword (Blades) or pistol (Rails) icons on the map directly leads to these weapon types.

Blades are melee weapons with unique movesets and abilities, while Rails are ranged weapons, each with distinct functionalities. Both come in varying rarities, with gold being the highest and most powerful. As expected in loot-driven games, rarity directly correlates with stat effectiveness.

To store weapons discovered in Overgrowths for later use, select the "Cache" option instead of "Equip." These cached weapons can then be equipped before starting subsequent runs by adjusting your loadout.

Obtaining New Starting Weapons

Beyond finding weapons during runs, new starting equipment can be purchased from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. Unlocking the Rails merchant requires gathering sufficient materials to repair their shop.

Merchant inventories are limited but refresh periodically. If initial offerings are unsatisfactory, revisit later to check for new items.

Weapon Upgrades

Weapon upgrades are available from Outpost merchants, but require unlocking the upgrade function first. This is achieved by increasing merchant affinity using Golden Rations, a rare resource obtained through exploration or cycle resets. Use Golden Rations judiciously due to their scarcity.

Important Note: Upon death, equipped weapons lose a segment of durability, represented by a bar beneath their icons. Repeated deaths will eventually break the weapon.
