LEGO Reveals The Simpsons' Krusty Burger Set
The LEGO Krusty Burger set aligns perfectly with LEGO's "Adults Welcome" initiative. (This set is available exclusively through the LEGO Store.) It offers a straightforward building experience that results in an impressive final model: a fully-equipped fast-food restaurant packed with subtle nods to iconic episodes of The Simpsons. The set includes seven minifigures: Homer Simpson, Bart Simpson, Lisa Simpson, Krusty the Clown as a farmer, Sideshow Bob, the Squeaky Voiced Teen, and Officer Lou.

Available starting June 1 for LEGO Insiders, and June 4 for the general public. Priced at $209.99 from the LEGO Store
Consider the many famous locations in Springfield and ask yourself, "Which is the most instantly recognizable?" The Simpsons' house is the obvious first choice, followed by Moe's Tavern. After that, the Kwik-E-Mart likely comes to mind. Since the Simpsons' house and the Kwik-E-Mart already exist as LEGO sets, that leaves Moe's. Surprisingly, LEGO chose to create a Krusty Burger instead.

Perhaps the designers were hesitant to reintroduce The Simpsons line with Moe's questionable establishment. Moe's Tavern has a distinct, memorable layout—we can easily visualize the pool table, the back room, and even the precise arrangement of stools and the love tester. In contrast, Krusty Burger is less distinctly defined. While it appears in many episodes and the movie, it's often portrayed as a generic chain restaurant; its very ordinariness is part of the joke.

To address this, LEGO designer Ann Healy drew from numerous episodes throughout the series to design the most definitive version of the restaurant. She detailed her process in our exclusive interview, but the primary sources were “Coming to Homerica” (Season 20, Episode 21) and “I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can” (Season 14, Episode 12).
The build starts with Homer's car, customized with Krusty-themed decorations as seen in "Homie the Clown" (Season 6, Episode 15). This is just one example of the many deep-cut references found throughout the set. You'll also find a poster of the Krusty Burglar, whom Homer nearly attacks in the same episode for "stealing all the burgers." Another reference to "Homie the Clown" is hidden on one of the cash registers, which displays $6.15—a direct nod to the season and episode number.

The second cash register shows $847.63, the amount Maggie scans during the original opening sequence. This figure represented the estimated monthly cost of raising a child in the U.S. at the time. Other details include promotional posters for Krusty's products like the Ribwich and the Mother Nature Burger. The order board by the drive-thru window requests 700 Krusty Burgers, a callback to "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood" (Season 5, Episode 8), where Krusty opens a restaurant on an oil rig.

The layout of the Krusty Burger is fantastic. It features a detailed dining area—complete with a Krusty's Kidz Zone ball pit—where many scenes from the show take place. It also includes a fully realized back-of-house area with a cooking and prep station (featuring a fryer and a broken ice cream machine), an employee restroom, and a drive-thru where an attendant can take orders and fill drink cups. The prep station has stacks of Krusty Burgers, showcasing LEGO's brilliant minimalism—using just a few bricks to perfectly convey an idea.

Outside, the drive-thru order menu is positioned around the corner from the pickup window. This is a small but thoughtful detail. It shows that this set is more than just a collection of Easter eggs; it's a logically designed model that makes practical sense from an operational perspective.
The LEGO Krusty Burger is recommended for builders 18 and older, placing it among the many LEGO sets designed for adults. Historically, age recommendations indicated the difficulty and complexity of a build—suggesting a builder needed a certain level of dexterity and patience. For a long time, a builder's age and LEGO skills were closely linked, with no conflict between a set's theme and its building complexity.

However, LEGO began targeting adults, many of whom hadn't built with LEGO since childhood. This created a new audience needing thematically mature yet technically accessible sets. As a high school teacher, I see a parallel with English Language Learners. A 16-year-old student might need simpler text, but they also require content that is appropriate for their age—we wouldn't give them a book from the children's section.
This is why the 18+ designation now serves a dual purpose: it signifies complexity, but it also identifies the thematic interest area. The LEGO Krusty Burger is an ideal set for its target Gen-X and Millennial audience—easy to put together yet meticulously detailed.

The last major, minifigure-scale Simpsons set from LEGO was released a decade ago (the now-retired Simpsons house launched in 2014, followed by the Kwik-E-Mart in 2015). Perhaps the ten-year gap has allowed LEGO to build the mainstream, adult popularity needed to make LEGO Simpsons a regular, annual release, similar to the recent LEGO Lord of the Rings sets. We would certainly welcome more. And please, make Moe's Tavern the next one!
