DC Studios Reveals First Look at Lanterns Series with Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre

DC Studios has given fans their first glimpse of the upcoming Lanterns series—and yes, we're talking Green Lanterns, plural. HBO just dropped a preview featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, though neither is fully suited up yet. But look closely, and you'll spot a Power Ring glowing on Chandler's hand.

Described as a gripping detective drama in the vein of True Detective and Slow Horses, Lanterns follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they unravel a murder case that spirals into something far more sinister. The show is officially part of James Gunn’s expanding DC Universe, alongside Creature Commando, Superman, and the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film.

Developed by Lost creator Damon Lindelof, alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King, the series promises a grittier take on the cosmic heroes. Gunn teased the tone as "very grounded, very believable—not what you’d expect from a Green Lantern show."

Chandler, famous for Friday Night Lights, steps into the boots of an experienced Hal Jordan, while rising star Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) brings John Stewart to life. Slated for a 2026 debut, the series will premiere the same year as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, setting the stage for a major DC rollout.
