One of the most delightful aspects of managing a farm in *Stardew Valley* is the chance to have a variety of animals, from livestock to beloved pets. How To Unlock Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

When you begin your journey in Stardew Valley, you're given the option to adopt either a cat or a dog as your first pet. Originally, the game restricted players to just one pet per save file. However, the introduction of the 1.6 update in early 2024 opened up the possibility of welcoming more furry friends to your farm.

To unlock the ability to adopt more pets, you must first reach the maximum friendship level with your current pet. This involves providing them with a full bowl of water every day, which you can do using your Watering Can. Note that on rainy or snowy days, the bowl will fill naturally.

Additionally, make sure to pet your animal once a day; you'll know you've succeeded when a heart bubble appears over their head. You can monitor your pet's friendship level through the "Animals" tab in your pause menu.

Once the friendship meter is full, you'll receive a notification from Marnie via mail, inviting you to adopt more pets from her shop, located south of your farm. If you haven't adopted a pet by the end of your first year, Marnie will send this notice at the beginning of Year 2.

Once you've selected your new pets, head to Robin's carpentry shop in the northern part of Pelican Town to purchase Pet Bowls. These bowls are crucial, not only for providing water but also for establishing a "home" for your pets, preventing their friendship meter from decreasing and potentially running away. Each bowl costs 5,000g and requires 25 x Hardwood, which you can obtain with a Copper Axe or better. It's advisable to buy these bowls before adopting new pets to ensure you don't lose any friendship points.
