GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5, Xbox Release Dates Confirmed, PC Still Unmentioned

by Aaron May 15,2025

With the much-anticipated release of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a significant update to its official website, fans eagerly awaited confirmation on the launch platforms alongside the newly announced release date of May 26, 2026. At the trailer's conclusion, the release date was displayed with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, solidifying these consoles as the initial launch platforms for GTA 6. Notably, Trailer 2 was specifically captured on a PS5, as mentioned in the trailer itself, excluding any reference to the PS5 Pro.

This confirmation sparked discussions about the potential PC launch and the possibility of a release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Many fans had hoped that the delay to May 2026 might encourage Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two, to opt for a simultaneous PC release. However, the absence of any mention of a PC version in the trailer suggests that Rockstar may stick to its traditional staggered release strategy. This approach feels somewhat outdated in the current gaming landscape, especially given the increasing significance of the PC platform for the success of multiplatform games.

In a February interview with IGN, Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, hinted at GTA 6's eventual PC release. He compared the simultaneous launch strategy of Firaxis' Civilization 7 across consoles, PC, and Switch, to Rockstar's historical approach of releasing on some platforms first and then expanding to others. This has been a point of contention among Rockstar fans, given the studio's past reluctance to release games on PC at the same time as consoles and its complex relationship with the modding community.

The big question remains: when will GTA 6 hit the PC? If not in May 2026, could it be in Fall 2027, early 2027, or even a year later in May 2027? A former Rockstar developer in December 2023 tried to shed light on why GTA 6 would first launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S before coming to PC, urging PC gamers to give the studio the benefit of the doubt regarding its launch strategy.

Zelnick emphasized to IGN the importance of the PC market, noting that it can account for 40% of a multiplatform game's sales, or even more in certain cases. He acknowledged the growing importance of PCs in what was traditionally a console-dominated market and predicted this trend would continue, especially with the advent of new console generations.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, there was no logo present in GTA 6 Trailer 2. Although the capabilities of the Switch 2 remain unknown, the fact that it will support CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 had sparked some hope that GTA 6 might also find its way to Nintendo's next-gen console, especially considering it's slated for the less powerful Xbox Series S as well.
