by Charlotte Oct 11,2025

Game Informer Resurfaces Six Months After GameStop Closure with Full Team Revival

After GameStop's unexpected shutdown in August 2024, Game Informer makes its triumphant return – with its entire original staff reuniting under new ownership.

Gunzilla Games Rescues Gaming Institution

In a heartfelt editorial letter, Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller revealed Gunzilla Games acquired Game Informer's rights from GameStop. The developer intends to restore not just the editorial staff but the complete production pipeline.

Gunzilla Games, best known for developing the Early Access extraction shooter Off the Grid, operates a blockchain gaming ecosystem. Notably, filmmaker Neill Blomkamp serves as their Chief Creative Officer.

A New Era of Editorial Independence

Miller emphasized Gunzilla's commitment to editorial freedom: "The new owners demanded we maintain complete independence – our team alone controls coverage decisions without external influence."

The revived publication now operates as Game Informer Inc., preserving its three-decade legacy. Remarkably, the team spent their hiatus preparing dozens of reviews for games released during their absence, plus comprehensive 2024 Game of the Year awards.

Print Revival and Expanded Offerings Coming Soon

While the physical magazine will return later with enhanced quality, immediate plans include:

  • Membership programs with exclusive archive access
  • Enhanced video content and streaming initiatives
  • Collaborations with industry experts

New accounts unlock special benefits including Dark Mode, founder privileges, and access to Game Informer's legendary magazine archive spanning its 30-year history.
