Final Fantasy 14 Could Come to Switch 2, Says Yoshi-P
Have you experienced the widely praised MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? You can now enjoy the complete A Realm Reborn story and the award-winning Heavensward and Stormblood expansions entirely for free, with the trial reaching level 70 and no playtime restrictions. But wait, you haven't tried it yet because you only have access to Nintendo devices?
Don't worry, because Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida has you in mind. Speaking with VGC at Gamescom recently, Yoshi-P addressed the possibility of bringing FFXIV to the Nintendo Switch 2, and the outlook is encouraging. "My personal goal is to make Final Fantasy XIV and XVI accessible to as many players as possible, so that everyone can enjoy both titles," he explained. "We're dedicating our full efforts to achieve this, and it's perfectly fine to let your audience know that I'm highly optimistic and working hard to make it a reality."
Yoshi-P elaborated that this would also be great for current players—while they might play intense combat and main story quests on PC, they could unwind on the sofa with a Switch 2 and focus on gathering and crafting activities.
“For new players, particularly younger audiences, starting Final Fantasy XIV on Switch 2 could introduce them to the MMO genre for the first time. I would be thrilled to welcome them and see them dive into this style of gaming and experience all the game offers.
“With this in mind, our conversations with Nintendo are ongoing and making good progress. I truly hope players can anticipate exciting future updates.”
Final Fantasy XIV has been accessible on PlayStation and PC for years, and it recently expanded to Xbox and mobile, standing out as a rare MMORPG that spans nearly all major platforms. The only exception has been Nintendo, likely because earlier systems couldn't support such a large-scale online game. Will the Nintendo Switch 2 finally run Eorzea and all its inhabitants smoothly? Fingers crossed, and hopefully we won't have to wait long.
Speaking of updates, Final Fantasy XIV also made headlines at Gamescom's Opening Night Live. The team announced a Monster Hunter x Final Fantasy XIV crossover arriving this fall, bringing FFXIV elements into Monster Hunter Wilds and vice versa. Note that participating in this crossover event isn't quick for newcomers; you must have completed the Dawntrail expansion, a journey that can take hundreds of hours unless you purchase a story skip.
