The Evil Genius series may get a new game
Jason Kingsley, the CEO of Rebellion, has expressed a deep affection for the Evil Genius franchise but has not confirmed plans for a third installment just yet. While the idea of an Evil Genius 3 is not off the table, Kingsley is taking time to consider how to elevate the series. The concept of world domination, central to the franchise, is being explored beyond the traditional base-building simulator genre, with the team brainstorming potential new strategic formats to bring fresh life to the series.
Evil Genius 2, released in 2021, garnered "mostly positive" reviews from critics on Metacritic. However, the reception among regular players was less enthusiastic. Despite enhancements in graphics and efforts to address previous issues, the sequel did not meet the expectations set by the original game. Players voiced their disappointment over aspects such as the global map, the management of minions, and the quality of various in-game structures. Kingsley and his team are taking these critiques to heart as they contemplate the future direction of the franchise.
