Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove an iconic feature of the last game. Why won't players be able to leave messages?
Elden Ring: Nightreign removes the in-game message feature, a departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign matches last approximately forty minutes, leaving insufficient time for players to write or read messages.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there's simply not enough time to send or read messages, so we disabled the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This choice is noteworthy, considering the significant role messaging played in enhancing player interaction and enjoyment in past FromSoftware games. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate storyline. The game offers a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters, while preserving the signature atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
