Skate Adds Microtransactions Before Release

by Nora Dec 10,2025

EA has introduced microtransactions into Skate during its most recent alpha test, ahead of an official release date announcement.

As reported by Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle has rolled out microtransactions in the ongoing closed alpha for EA's free-to-play Skate revival.

Players can now spend real money on a virtual currency named San Van Bucks, which is used to purchase cosmetic items. It appears Full Circle aims to evaluate Skate's microtransaction purchasing system, emphasizing the goal of providing a "positive experience when buying items from the Skate store."

"Your feedback will be instrumental in delivering an excellent experience at the Early Access launch," the message adds.

According to Insider Gaming, Full Circle has informed testers that all progress will be completely reset before Skate enters early access. Any purchases made during testing will be converted back into San Van Bucks and restored once early access begins.

Skate's early access launch is scheduled for 2025. Originally announced at EA Play back in 2020, the game was described then as being in "very early" development. Since then, Full Circle has kept players informed through closed community playtests of early builds and development updates via its "The Board Room" video series.

In 2022, the developer officially confirmed the game would simply be titled 'skate.' and announced it would launch as a free-to-play title on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
