Dune: Awakening Beta Delayed 3 Weeks for Updates

by Elijah Dec 19,2025

Dune: Awakening, the upcoming open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve’s films, has been postponed to June 10, 2025.

Developer Funcom shared the announcement while confirming that players eager for an early start can access the game on June 5 by purchasing either the Deluxe Edition or the Ultimate Edition.

Explaining the delay, Funcom noted that feedback from its ongoing Persistent Closed Beta prompted the move, giving the team extra time to refine development. This period will also allow them to implement requested changes and discoveries made during the beta phase.

Additionally, the delay paves the way for a large-scale beta weekend next month, allowing even more players to experience the game and contribute their feedback.

Though the delay may disappoint those eager to explore Dune: Awakening sooner, Funcom is hosting a combat-focused livestream later today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This event will showcase more details on PvP and PvE mechanics, character archetypes, and skills.

Here at IGN, we remain enthusiastic about Dune: Awakening—as noted in our hands-on preview: "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game in the Dune universe, but after surviving dehydration and sunstroke, our day on Arrakis convinced us that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."

For deeper insights, explore details on the MMO’s business model, post-launch plans, and the in-depth gameplay trailer revealed at Gamescom ONL last year.
