Dragon Age: Veilguard Surprises with Free Weapon DLC After Update Drought

by Lillian May 14,2025

BioWare has almost entirely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that hasn't stopped the remaining team from delighting fans with a surprise addition of a small DLC weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was updated to include the free Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer. This unexpected gift is especially appreciated, given that EA had previously indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not see much future support. The game's fifth patch in January promised that future updates would primarily address game-breaking bugs, making this new content feel like a pleasant surprise, even if it's modest in scope.

Interestingly, the Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before the deadline of April 8, 2025. While there's no detailed description of the bundle's contents, players have figured out that it includes a set of Watchful skins accessible in their Rook’s in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

"Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever," noted one Steam review, "they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!"

"It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content," a Redditor commented. "I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard received positive reviews from critics upon its October launch, but according to EA, it failed to "resonate with a broad enough audience." Key members of the development team announced their departure from BioWare in late January, as much of the staff was either laid off or reassigned to other roles within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio had shifted its "full focus" to the next installment in the Mass Effect series.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles just four months after its release. No further plans for its future have been announced.
