The Witcher 4 Beta Test Invite Scam
CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
On April 16, CD Projekt Red took to The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account to alert the community about a scam involving beta test invitations for The Witcher 4. The studio emphasized that any reports of beta tests currently circulating are false.
Their official statement read, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
CD Projekt Red assured fans that any future legitimate beta tests would be announced first through The Witcher's official social media channels and websites.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 was first unveiled during the Game Awards in December 2024. The announcement trailer introduced Ciri as the game's new protagonist, sparking discussions among fans accustomed to Geralt's leading role in the previous three games.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed fan reactions to Ciri's new role. Weber acknowledged fans' attachment to Geralt but reassured them that the team is dedicated to making Ciri's journey compelling and worthwhile.
Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude for the support from fans regarding Ciri's new role. He remarked, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
Developers have described The Witcher 4 as the most ambitious installment in the series yet, promising new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced.
