Cosmo Jarvis Joins Shogun Season 2, Set 10 Years Later

The acclaimed Shōgun, recipient of 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is officially returning for a second season — with production plans already in motion. FX's official announcement confirms Cosmo Jarvis will reprise his role as pilot John Blackthorne while also stepping into a co-executive producer role.

Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada — who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's unexpected renewal — has been elevated to executive producer status after serving as producer during the initial season. Production is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, maintaining continuity with the first season's filming location.

A Bold Continuation

FX describes the upcoming season as "an entirely original new chapter" building upon the first season's adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network outlined the narrative bridge between seasons:

"Season one saw Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battling for survival against unified foes in the Council of Regents. The discovery of shipwrecked European vessel pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) provided crucial intelligence that shifted the balance in Toranaga's favor during a pivotal civil war.

The second chapter jumps forward a decade, continuing the historically-inspired saga of these two men from divergent worlds bound by destiny."
