"Breath of Fire IV Revived on PC After 25 Years"

by Matthew May 14,2025

Breath of Fire IV, the beloved role-playing game from Capcom, has been resurrected on PC, marking its return 25 years after its initial launch. Originally released on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and in Europe the following year, the game made its way to PC in Europe and Japan in 2003. The narrative centers around Ryu, a protagonist with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, who joins forces with a group of warriors to thwart an emperor's plans to destroy the world.

As part of its Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV to ensure compatibility with modern PCs, releasing it DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version is optimized for Windows 10 and 11, offering both English and Japanese localizations. The game boasts improved graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer, along with new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for enhanced visuals. Additionally, the audio engine has been revamped to restore missing environmental sounds and provide new configuration options.
