US Blocks Marvel Snap Amid TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed Marvel Snap, while it is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Due to this connection, Marvel Snap faced a ban alongside other apps such as CapCut and Lemon8, leading to its removal from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This unexpected discontinuation has left many players frustrated, especially those encountering authorization issues. However, PC gamers can still access the game via Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise at the incident and are actively working to restore the game's availability. In an official statement on Platform X, they assured fans, saying, "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."

A particularly frustrating aspect of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout. While Marvel Snap was affected, not all ByteDance apps faced the same fate. For instance, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.

In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced a new card, Moonstone, which fits into the game's Ongoing archetype. Moonstone, with a cost of 4 and power of 6, is a much-needed addition to the meta. As an ongoing card, she can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. With a substantial pool of low-cost ongoing cards already available in Marvel Snap, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily boost power, Moonstone stands out by gaining these effects at no additional cost, potentially leading to high-impact plays.
