AMD recently showcased an early preview of its next-generation frame generation technology, AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) 2. This update brings notable enhancements, including up to 28% lower latency and customizable modes for various resolutions to optimize your gaming setup. AFMF 2 introduces advanced optimizations and adjustable settings for frame generation, boosting frame rates and improving gameplay fluidity.

AMD reports that AFMF 2 leverages AI algorithms to enhance image quality while cutting latency and boosting performance. Early feedback from a select group of gamers has been positive, with AMD citing a poll where AFMF 2 earned an average rating of 9.3/10 for image quality and smoothness.

"This marks a significant leap over AFMF 1," AMD noted. "We’re excited to release this as a technical preview to gather your feedback and further refine AFMF 2."

The standout feature of AFMF 2 is its latency reduction. AMD’s tests show an average latency drop of up to 28% compared to its predecessor. For example, in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K resolution with ultra ray tracing settings on an RX 7900 XTX, AMD observed significant latency improvements. The company highlighted that AFMF 2 achieves "an average 28% lower latency at 4K with the Ray Tracing: Ultra preset compared to AFMF 1."

AMD has also broadened AFMF 2’s compatibility and features. The technology now supports borderless fullscreen modes on AMD Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon 700M series graphics cards. It also integrates with Vulkan and OpenGL games, enhancing animation smoothness. Additionally, AFMF 2 pairs with AMD Radeon Chill, enabling users to set a driver-controlled FPS limit for greater control.
