"Adult's First LEGO Buy: Mario Set, No Regrets"
As someone who prides themselves on practicality when it comes to spending money, I typically stick to essentials and the occasional discounted video game. It wasn't until last year that I even considered splurging on something as seemingly frivolous as a LEGO set. Growing up, I adored building LEGO sets, but as an adult, the appeal seemed to fade—perhaps due to the steep prices. While there are some affordable options under $25, sets linked to popular franchises like movies or video games often carry a heftier price tag. It took me quite a while to justify purchasing the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant, which had been on sale for under $50 since October of last year. Ultimately, the decision came down to wanting a unique potted plant for my desk.

My interest in the Piranha Plant set was piqued after reading IGN's review. Being a long-time fan of Mario games, this set seemed like the perfect way to showcase my love for the franchise. Although LEGO's botanical line offers beautiful flower sets that would enhance my desk, none capture the whimsical yet slightly menacing charm of the Piranha Plant.

Now that I've built the set, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. Each glance at it transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, where I imagine nurturing my little potted Piranha Plant during work hours. The joy of the finished product is matched by the satisfaction of the building process itself. I completed it in one afternoon, yet it was challenging enough to keep me engaged throughout. It's the only LEGO Nintendo set I own so far, but my experience has definitely sparked an interest in acquiring more.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
As mentioned, the LEGO world can be expensive, with new adult-targeted sets often priced at $200 or more. It's easy to get carried away with these impressive sets, but it's important to find a balance between indulgence and financial responsibility. The fact that the Mario LEGO set was under $50 made it a worthwhile purchase for me. The hours spent building it and the daily joy it brings to my desk are priceless. However, $50 is my personal limit for such a purchase.
