May 2025 PS Plus Free Game Linked to Hollywood Movie

by Sophia May 25,2025

Rumors are swirling that the teen slasher horror game, Until Dawn, might be hitting PlayStation Plus as a free download in May 2025. While Sony hasn't confirmed anything yet, the leaked key art suggests it could be the Until Dawn Remastered version rather than the 2014 original. We'll keep you posted as soon as we get the official word.

PlayStation Plus is a premium online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering a variety of perks including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. It also boasts a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games available to Extra and Premium members, while the monthly free games are accessible to all subscribers, regardless of tier.

Speculation from the PlayStation subreddit (shoutout to PushSquare) points towards this move being a promotional tie-in with the recently released Until Dawn movie. However, the film didn't meet our expectations, earning a modest 5/10 in IGN's Until Dawn movie review, where we noted: "Until Dawn is more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations."

Similarly, the 2024 Until Dawn Remastered received a 5/10 from us, with IGN's Until Dawn Remastered review stating it's an "overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to daylight robbery." In contrast, the original 2015 game from Supermassive earned a solid 7.5/10.

In other PlayStation Plus news, 22 games are set to be removed from the library next month, including fan-favorites like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the final playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This means that Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles.
