Honey Harvest Guide in Stardew Valley

by Scarlett Feb 12,2025

This guide explores the surprisingly lucrative world of honey production in Stardew Valley. While often overlooked, honey is a readily accessible artisan good with significant profit potential. This updated guide covers everything from building bee houses to maximizing honey profits, incorporating the latest updates from version 1.6.

Bee House Construction

Honey production begins with the Bee House. Unlocked at Farming Level 3, a Bee House requires:

  • 40 Wood
  • 8 Coal
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Maple Syrup

Bee Houses can also be obtained by completing the Fall Crops Bundle (Community Center) or as a prize from the Mayor's Prize Counter.

Place your Bee House outdoors – farm, forest, quarry – anywhere except the Greenhouse. Each Bee House produces honey every 3-4 days (year-round on Ginger Island), except during Winter. To relocate a Bee House, use an axe or pickaxe; any ready honey will drop.

Honey Types and Flower Placement

Bee House and Flowers

The type of honey produced depends on nearby flowers (within five tiles). No flowers mean Wild Honey (100g base, 140g with Artisan profession). Planting flowers near the Bee House upgrades the honey type and its value. This includes flowers in Garden Pots.

The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) boosts all artisan goods by 40%. Here's a breakdown of honey types and their sell prices:

Honey Type Base Sell Price Artisan Sell Price
Tulip Honey 160g 224g
Blue Jazz Honey 200g 280g
Sunflower Honey 260g 364g
Summer Spangle 280g 392g
Poppy Honey 380g 532g
Fairy Rose Honey 680g 952g

Remember: harvesting flowers before collecting honey reverts the honey type to Wild Honey.

Honey Uses

While higher-value honeys are best sold directly, Wild Honey and less valuable varieties have other uses:

  • Mead: Place honey in a Keg to produce Mead. Mead quality (Normal, Silver, Gold, Iridium) affects its sell price, but the honey type doesn't. Aging in a Cask further increases value.
  • Crafting: Combine honey with Hardwood and Fiber to craft a Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8).
  • Gifting: Honey is a well-liked gift for most villagers (except Maru and Sebastian), making Wild Honey an excellent choice for friendship building. Mead is also popular, but avoid giving it to children, Penny, or Sebastian.
