Indiana Jones Game Wins Praise Despite Last-Minute Changes

by Chloe Apr 02,2026

At the Develop Conference in Brighton, MachineGames' Design Director Jens Andersson and Audio Director Pete Ward shared with the audience how the Swedish studio approached the creation of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle—the widely praised revival of the globe-trotting archaeologist in video game form.

Their presentation provided fascinating details about the pressures of the game's development process, how all the pieces fell into place relatively late in production (as is typical in game development), and the unexpected audio challenges that complicated progress. What truly stood out, however, was the incredible dedication the team showed in recreating the world of Indiana Jones with painstaking authenticity. Every detail—from the iconic crack of the whip to the appearance of market stalls in the late 1930s—was carefully considered to craft the perfect atmosphere for the game.

This attention to detail paid off, earning widespread acclaim from both critics and players. IGN’s review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle awarded it a 9/10, praising it as: “An irresistible and immersive global treasure hunt, and by far the best Indy story this century. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle doesn’t belong in a museum—it belongs on your hard drive, ready for countless adventures.”

With downloadable content on the horizon and fan speculation swirling about a potential sequel hinted at by the game’s ending, the future looks bright. With this in mind, IGN sat down with Andersson and Ward at Develop for a follow-up conversation, diving deeper into the significant changes made in the final year of development and asking a few playful questions about what comes next.
