WB Games' 'MultiVersus' to End After Season 5

by Max Feb 25,2025

Player First Games announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, concluding on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the shutdown in a blog post.

Online play will cease on May 30th, but offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain via local and training modes. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support.

Real-money transactions are already suspended. Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until May 30th. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.

MultiVersus's closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million loss in the games sector. This follows the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and coincides with the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.

CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels highlighted MultiVersus's poor performance during a November financial call, stating, "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline.”

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will introduce new characters: Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass), ensuring a final, content-rich season before the game's conclusion.
