Unlocking the Gunsmithing Skill in Atomfall

To access upgraded weapon crafting recipes in Atomfall, you must first unlock the Gunsmithing skill. This survival skill is learned by reading the Crafting Manual. Locating skill-related books in Atomfall can be challenging, but there’s a straightforward method to obtain this one.

At Wyndham’s Village Shop, Morris Wick holds a Crafting Manual, but he won’t trade it easily. You’ll need to use blackmail and negotiation. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, dialogue reveals a recent murder of Maisie, which the Vicar is keen to conceal. Further investigation uncovers evidence linking Morris to the crime. Presenting this evidence pressures him to hand over the Crafting Manual.

Find the evidence in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N, west of Wyndham Village. Enter through a cellar door near a ruined building and search for the note “Kill the One They Call Maisie.” Once found, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue, applying pressure subtly until the “Bargaining” option appears. Select it, and Morris will trade the Crafting Manual for your silence about his crime.

Alternatively, the Crafting Manual is available in The Interchange’s D Section, but this route is more complex and time-consuming than dealing with Morris.

After obtaining and reading the Crafting Manual, spend 7 Training Stimulants to unlock the Gunsmith skill, enabling access to upgraded weapon recipes. Search B.A.R.D. structures like Bunkers and The Interchange to gather enough skill points for this costly but valuable upgrade.

Crafting Weapon Upgrades in Atomfall

With the Crafting Manual and Gunsmith skill, you gain access to weapon upgrade recipes. Acquiring a weapon unlocks the recipe for its next tier, progressing from Rusty to Stock to Pristine. Upgrading requires two weapons of the previous tier, plus specific amounts of Gun Oil and Scrap, which vary by weapon.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Stock Falkirk Battle Rifles, 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. Gun Oil and Scrap are commonly found at military sites like Protocol Camps. To upgrade frequently, consider unlocking the Deep Pockets skill to carry more crafting materials.

Upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time earns you the Make do and mend Achievement or Trophy.
