Ubisoft Addresses Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak

by Max Apr 02,2025

On February 24, we reported that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had leaked online, with numerous individuals streaming the game a full month before its official release date set for March 20. Over the weekend, as highlighted by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, now-deleted social media posts revealed physical copies of the game being sold prematurely, leading to multiple streams of the unreleased title appearing on platforms like Twitch.

In response to these leaks, Ubisoft, the developer and publisher of Assassin's Creed Shadows, issued a statement on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. They acknowledged that some players had gained early access to the game and emphasized that the development team is still refining the game with patches to ensure a polished experience at launch. Ubisoft noted that any leaked footage does not reflect the final quality of Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Ubisoft expressed their disappointment over the leaks, stating, "Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players." They urged the community not to spoil the experience for others and thanked fans for their efforts in minimizing spoilers. The company encouraged fans to "Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks!" reminding everyone that the official release on March 20 is just around the corner.

These leaks add to Ubisoft's challenges with the Assassin's Creed franchise. The development team previously apologized for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission and for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan. Originally slated for a November release, the game's launch was postponed first to February 14 and then to the current release date of March 20. With struggling Ubisoft needing a strong performance from Assassin's Creed Shadows to recover from recent underwhelming sales and investor backlash, the stakes are high for this title.
