Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on Switch Makes A Huge Splash After Its Announcement
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Announcement is Nintendo Japan's Most Liked Tweet
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream’s announcement on Twitter (X) became Nintendo Japan’s most liked tweet, overshadowing the hype for the Switch 2. After its announcement during the Nintendo Direct on March 27, Tomodachi Life’s announcement tweet received over 400,000 likes on Twitter (X) compared to Nintendo Switch 2’s reveal in January, which only had around 385,000 likes.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a part of a series of life-simulation games that focuses on Nintendo’s digital avatars living on an island. The first game in the series, Tomodachi Collection, was released exclusively in Japan in 2009 for the Nintendo DS and sold over 100,000 copies in its first week of release. It was followed by Tomodachi Collection: New Life, released on the 3DS in Japan in 2013, which sold over 6.7 million copies, becoming one of the 3DS’s best-selling games. This was later ported to the West as simply Tomodachi Life in 2014.
According to Nintendo, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream lets you "Create your own Mii characters based on yourself, friends, family – anyone! – and watch them live their lives on an island out at sea. Get involved with their relationships and experience all the weird and wonderful ways these Mii characters interact. You may even drop in on their dreams!"
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Adds Ears To Mii Characters
Following the reveal trailer, fans have eagerly dissected the video to uncover the exciting features the game will offer. The trailer includes created Mii characters, classic island locations, Mii interactions, and more. However, the addition of ears to Mii characters has been a focal point of discussion among fans.
This change has sparked various comments across social media platforms. A Twitter (X) user expressed hope that this feature would carry over to the Switch 2’s Mii character creation. On Reddit, discussions revolved around how Miis now appear more human-like and the potential to add cosmetics such as earrings. Some fans, however, wish for the option to revert to the original earless design.
With the significant buzz generated post-reveal, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is off to a promising start. The game is slated for release in 2026 on the Nintendo Switch.
