TikTok Is Officially Banned in the U.S. and Can No Longer Be Accessed Within Its Borders
TikTok's U.S. ban is now in effect, preventing American users from accessing the platform. Attempts to open the app result in a message stating its unavailability due to a recently enacted law. While the app expressed hope for reinstatement under a future administration, citing President Trump's previous suggestion of a potential solution, no concrete plan has yet materialized.
The Supreme Court's unanimous rejection of TikTok's final appeal underscored national security concerns surrounding data collection and the app's ties to a foreign entity, despite acknowledging its popularity and role as a platform for expression and community. The court's ruling emphasized Congress's determination that divestiture was necessary.
Although President Trump indicated a potential 90-day delay to the ban, allowing time for a U.S. or allied entity to acquire the app, this hasn't occurred. Consequently, the ban remains in place. Furthermore, the ban's ripple effect has impacted other apps linked to ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, including CapCut, Lemon8, and Marvel Snap, which are also currently inaccessible.
