Thronefall: Back-to-Basics RTS Launches on iOS

by Elijah Jan 21,2026
  • The excellent RTS Thronefall from Grizzly Games is now available on iOS.
  • Defend against hordes of monsters at night and build your city by day.
  • Experience a streamlined, back-to-basics strategy game right in the palm of your hand.

The real-time strategy genre has seen virtually every possible twist and turn. It's no surprise, then, that it's also ripe for a back-to-basics approach. That's exactly what developer Grizzly Games has done with Thronefall, stripping the experience down to its core essentials.

Well, perhaps not *just* the essentials. Thronefall is a stylish RTS divided into two phases: building and preparing your defenses during the day, and holding out until dawn against waves of monsters at night. You'll need to balance your city's essential functions with the fortifications required to repel the invading hordes.

In many ways, Thronefall resembles survival-strategy titles like They Are Billions. However, the scale is more intimate, with a stronger focus on classic medieval defense—think walls, archers, knights, and more.

Visually, it's no exaggeration to say Thronefall is very appealing. Its cel-shaded art style and lush colors are a delight, even on a smaller screen. Originally released on PC in 2024, the mobile version launches with a wealth of updates and refinements ready for players to enjoy.

Thronefall doesn't limit you to passive defense, either. You can sit back and pick off enemies from afar or lead a cavalry charge right into the fray. If you've ever thought you could defend a stronghold better than King Théoden, now's your chance to prove it.
