Star Wars Outlaws' Sales Predicted to Fall Off by Industry Analyst

Ubisoft pinned significant financial hopes on Star Wars Outlaws, aiming for a major boost to its overall financial standing. Despite positive critical reception, sales have fallen short of expectations, resulting in a decline in Ubisoft's share price on September 3rd. The company also highlighted Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) as a key long-term growth driver in its first-quarter 2024-25 sales report.

In its Q1 2024-25 report, Ubisoft emphasized the importance of successfully launching Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows, positioning them as long-term assets in its ongoing organizational transformation. The report also noted a 15% increase in console and PC session days, primarily driven by Games-as-a-Service titles. Monthly active users (MAUs) reached 38 million, a 7% year-on-year increase.

Sales figures for Star Wars Outlaws have been described as sluggish. Reuters reported that J.P. Morgan analyst Daniel Kerven stated the game "struggled to meet our sales expectations despite positive critical reviews," revising his sales projection from 7.5 million units to 5.5 million units through March 2025.

Following the August 30th release of Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft's share price fell for a second consecutive day on September 3rd, declining 5.1% on Monday and a further 2.4% by Tuesday morning. This drop marked the company's lowest share price since 2015, adding to an overall decline of over 30% since the beginning of the year.

Despite generally positive critical reviews, Star Wars Outlaws hasn't resonated as strongly with players, currently holding a user score of 4.5 out of 10 on Metacritic. Conversely, Game8 awarded Star Wars Outlaws a 90/100 rating, praising it as "an exceptional game that does justice to the Star Wars franchise."
