Star Wars Movie From Deadpool & Wolverine Director Could Star Ryan Gosling

Exciting news for Star Wars fans: Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool & Wolverine, is reportedly inching closer to directing a new Star Wars film, and he might be bringing Ryan Gosling along for the journey. According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations are underway for Gosling to star in this eagerly anticipated project. Levy has been crafting this Star Wars movie since 2022, with script development kicking off last year. He's teaming up once again with Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both of which Levy directed.

While details about the plot remain under wraps, it's confirmed that the film will not be part of the Skywalker Saga. It's designed to be a standalone movie, suggesting it won't spawn a trilogy. There's no information yet on the character Gosling might portray or the specific era within the Star Wars universe the story will explore.

The involvement of Ryan Gosling has accelerated the project's timeline. Originally, Levy was slated to direct a boy band movie with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, if Gosling officially signs on, production on the Star Wars film will take priority, with filming set to begin in the fall.

Star Wars is currently navigating a transitional phase. Following the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney Plus introduced its latest series, Skeleton Crew, which recently concluded its run. On the cinematic front, Dave Filoni's The Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed filming in December and is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. Additionally, a new trilogy centered on Daisy Ridley's Rey from the sequel trilogy is in the works.
