Star Wars Celebration Confirms Oscar Isaac Appearance, Sparking Rumors of His Return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away

by Amelia Apr 05,2025

Star Wars Celebration 2025 is set to ignite excitement among fans with an official appearance by Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac, fueling speculation about the return of his character, Poe Dameron, to the iconic galaxy far, far away.

The announcement of Isaac's participation was made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, confirming his presence at the event in Tokyo from April 18 to 20. This news comes on the heels of Daisy Ridley's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she revealed her involvement in an upcoming film centered around her character, Rey. This has led fans to wonder if Isaac might follow suit and announce his return to the franchise.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker," and Isaac's sentiments about his involvement have evolved over time. Initially expressing reluctance in 2020, stating he would only return if he needed "another house or something," his stance softened by 2022. In an interview with Variety, he expressed openness to any opportunities, indicating a "no real feeling one way or another" about returning to Star Wars.

Isaac has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for rejecting his idea of a romantic storyline between Poe and John Boyega's character, Finn, citing that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, who also had a rocky relationship with Disney and the franchise, has similarly expressed openness to future roles.

The buzz around a potential reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio in the upcoming Rey film, set 15 years after "The Rise of Skywalker," is palpable. This film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will explore Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order and is tentatively slated for release on December 17, 2027, though delays have been a recurring theme for Disney's Star Wars projects.

Ridley has voiced her hope for Boyega to join her in the new film, and with Isaac rounding out the trio, his return seems plausible. Fans eagerly await any definitive announcements at Star Wars Celebration 2025, but until then, the anticipation continues to build.
