Square Enix Unveils Kingdom Hearts 4: Promises to Meet Fan Expectations
Square Enix has once again confirmed the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and enthusiastic social media post, dispelling any lingering doubts among fans. Accompanied by a captivating collage of images, the message leaves no room for uncertainty about the game's progress.
Just a day prior, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG intended for mobile devices. However, they seized this moment to reassure the Kingdom Hearts community that the team remains "hard at work" on Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the first of two posts declared. The accompanying images not only showcased several characters but also offered glimpses into cinematics, combat sequences, platforming elements, and a formidable large enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post continued. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first substantial news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a brief, enigmatic tease in January. Despite its initial reveal in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had maintained a low profile until this recent announcement.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously suggested that Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark a significant shift, steering the narrative towards its conclusion after 22 years and 18 games.
Regarding the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel stemmed from the realization that "it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
