"Spectre Divide: Skin Prices Drop Post-Launch Amid Backlash"

by Amelia May 20,2025

Spectre Divide has swiftly addressed the high pricing of skins and bundles in its newly launched online FPS game, just hours after its release. This move came in response to significant player backlash and criticism over the cost of in-game items. Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind Spectre Divide, have announced a significant reduction in the prices of skins and bundles, aiming to improve the gaming experience for its community.

Spectre Divide Lowers Skin Prices Hours After Launch and Player Backlash

30% SP Refund for Select Players

In a proactive response to player feedback, Spectre Divide's developer, Mountaintop Studios, has implemented a store price reduction. The costs of in-game weapons and character skins have been slashed by 17-25%, as confirmed by game director Lee Horn. This decision was made shortly after the game's launch, following widespread dissatisfaction with the initial pricing model.

"We've heard your feedback and we're making changes," stated Mountaintop Studios. "Weapons & Outfits will be permanently decreasing in price by 17-25%. Players who purchased store items before the change will get a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This adjustment was prompted by player outcry over the high costs, particularly highlighted by the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which was initially priced at around $85 (9,000 SP) – a sum many felt was exorbitant for a free-to-play game.

Mountaintop Studios has committed to providing a 30% SP refund to players who purchased items before the price drop, with refunds rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, the prices for the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain unaffected. "These packs will not have any adjustments. Anyone who purchased the Founder's pack / Supporter pack, and purchased the items above will get the extra SP added to their account as well," the studio clarified.

The response from the community has been mixed. While some players have shown appreciation for the price adjustments, the game's rating on Steam remains at 49% Negative at the time of writing, reflecting the ongoing backlash and review bombings. A player on Twitter (X) commented, "Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback." Another suggested additional enhancements, stating, "I wish we could buy individual items from packs like hairstyles or accessories! You’d probably get more money from me tbh!"

Despite these efforts, skepticism persists among some fans. One expressed frustration over the timing of the changes, saying, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset about it and then you change it. If you keep on going in this direction then I don’t think this game will last any longer. Cause in future you will get heavy competition from other f2p games too."
