Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

by Mila Feb 19,2025

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.

This change, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, reflects a shift in player preference towards PS5 games. The PlayStation Blog post clarified that while PS4 games will become less frequent in the monthly offerings and catalog, already-claimed titles remain accessible, and Games Catalog titles will stay available until their scheduled removal.

Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, highlighting continued benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company anticipates adding new PS5 titles monthly.

With the PS5's release in 2020, following the PS4's 2013 debut, Sony acknowledges the increasing PS5 player base and their preference for PS5 titles. The future placement of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed, with further details expected closer to the date.
