Skyblivion: Oblivion Remake in Skyrim's Engine Aims for Release This Year

by Carter Apr 03,2025

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. The dedicated mod team, composed of volunteer developers, has been pouring years of effort into this massive project. In a recent developer update stream, the team not only showcased the progress made but also reaffirmed their commitment to meeting the 2025 release target. "With your support, we aim to complete the final steps of our dream, possibly even surpassing our own timeline," they stated optimistically.

Describing Skyblivion as merely a remake would be an understatement. The team is meticulously enhancing various aspects of the original game. From making "unique items truly unique" to bolstering the challenge posed by existing bosses like Mannimarco, the developers are leaving no stone unturned. During their livestream, they highlighted the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest, which now boasts stunning visuals and a more immersive experience.

Adding an intriguing layer to this endeavor is the buzz surrounding an official remake of Oblivion. Earlier this year, rumors surfaced about potential changes to combat and other elements in an Oblivion remake. Microsoft, however, remained tight-lipped when approached by IGN. Additionally, an Oblivion remaster was inadvertently mentioned in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial in 2023. While some projects like the Indiana Jones game have since been released, others, including the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters, remain unconfirmed.

Given the history of Bethesda's games fostering a vibrant modding community, from classic titles to the latest like Starfield, the emergence of an official Oblivion remake could impact Skyblivion. Fans hope that this fan project won't face obstacles similar to those encountered by Fallout London as it nears its launch.
