HBO has officially announced that The Last of Us Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, April 13 at 9pm ET/PT. The new season will be available to stream on Max and will consist of seven episodes. In celebration of the upcoming release, HBO has unveiled new character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and Abby.

Set five years after the events of the first season, Season 2 will follow Joel and Ellie as they live with Joel's brother Tommy in their commune in Montana. This season will adapt the storyline from the second game in the series, The Last of Us Part 2, so fans familiar with the game can anticipate the unfolding events.

Joining Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, and Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, are several new cast members. Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby, Isabela Merced will play Dina, Young Mazino will be Jesse, Ariela Barer will take on the role of Mel, and Tati Gabrielle will play Nora. Notably, Tati Gabrielle is also set to star as the main protagonist in Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The first season of The Last of Us was a major success for HBO, garnering numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and receiving five Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing. The series was created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Neil Druckmann, head of Naughty Dog.

Given the success of the first season, HBO is eager for more. Francesca Orsi, an executive at HBO, has hinted that the series may run for a total of four seasons, suggesting that Season 2 will not cover the entire storyline of The Last of Us Part 2.
