Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Now the Worst User-Reviewed GTA on Steam

by Violet Mar 22,2025

Rockstar's enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5, launched in March, has received a mixed reception on Steam. With only 54% positive user reviews out of nearly 20,000, it's currently the lowest-rated GTA title on the platform. This contrasts sharply with the overwhelmingly positive reviews of the original GTA 5, now delisted from Steam.

The "Enhanced" edition offers features previously exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA Online, including Hao's Special Works upgrades, new vehicles, animal encounters, and GTA+ Membership access. It also boasts improved graphics and faster loading times. The upgrade is free for existing PC owners, allowing seamless migration of Story Mode and Online progress. However, this migration process has proven problematic for many players.

Numerous negative reviews cite failed account migrations, with players reporting error messages preventing access to their saved progress. Frustration is high, with some players threatening to abandon hundreds of hours of gameplay. The lack of effective support from Rockstar further fuels the negative sentiment.

Despite the negative feedback, GTA 5 Enhanced remains a popular title on Steam, boasting a peak concurrent player count exceeding 187,000. However, the issues have raised concerns about the potential for similar problems with the upcoming PC release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
