"Recruit All Allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows: A Guide"

by Penelope Apr 16,2025

In Assassin's Creed Shadows, Naoe and Yasuke face a challenging journey, but they're not alone in their quest. If you're looking to maximize your team by finding and recruiting all available allies, you're in the right place.

Allies in Assassin's Creed Shadows, Explained

In the game, you can recruit two types of allies. The first type enhances your Hideout by adding new functions, such as a blacksmith who enables equipment forging and upgrading. The second type are combat allies, who join you in the field with upgradeable abilities that are invaluable in various scenarios.

Once you've recruited a combat ally, you can manage them from the Hideout or any unlocked kakurega. When called into action, they'll deploy their initial skill and fight by your side until either they're defeated or all enemies are vanquished. Constructing a dojo in your hideout not only allows you to level up your allies but also enables you to have two allies equipped simultaneously.

While allies are optional and you can complete the game without them, having additional support can significantly enhance your gameplay experience.

Here are the non-combat allies you can recruit through the game's main and side quests:

  • Tomiko – Recruited during the quest "An Unpayable Debt."
  • Junjiro – Recruited during the quest "From Spark to Flame."
  • Heiji (Blacksmith) – Recruited during the quest "Way of the Blacksmith."

These allies enhance your Hideout's capabilities. The following allies are combat-focused and can be pivotal in overcoming the challenges within Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Yaya

The Buddhist monk, Yaya, is introduced during the main quest "The Fatherless Monk." She shares Yasuke's preference for justice over unnecessary violence. To recruit her, you must:

  • During the "Heads Will Roll" quest, choose to spare the target "The Wounded," aligning with Yaya's values.
  • Complete the "Find Yaya/The Stray Dogs" missions, making choices that promote forgiveness and reconciliation.
  • Finally, invite her to join your cause, recognizing her combat prowess.

Yaya's abilities at each level are:

  • Novice: Joins the fight with pushback attacks.
  • Initiate: Knocks down an enemy upon joining the fight.
  • Veteran: Uses a powerful kick to send enemies flying.

Katsuhime, a Koga shinobi skilled in ranged attacks, can be recruited in Omi. Start by hunting down "The Naginata," leading to quests like "Showdown in Sakamoto" and "Requiem for Rokkaku." After completing "Letter from Katsuhime," proceed to "The Diary of Lady Rokkaku," where you'll rescue the target and invite Katsuhime to join your league.

Her abilities are focused on debilitating enemies:

  • Novice: Deals daze damage upon entering the fight.
  • Initiate: Uses a dazing bomb for an area effect upon entering combat.
  • Veteran: Her teppo shots ricochet to another target when hitting a dazed enemy.

Gennojo

Gennojo, the cunning thief, is first encountered during the "Missing Missive" quest in the pursuit of "The Fool." After sparing him, follow his questline through "Lost Honor," "Sake and Sword," "Honor Among Thieves," and "Stolen Hearts." Consistently flirt and affirm his convictions, culminating in "The Godless Harvest" side quest, where you prevent him from using explosives and invite him to join your team.

Gennojo's abilities include:

  • Novice: Arrives with a bomb to shock enemies.
  • Initiate: Acts as a distraction to draw enemy attention.
  • Veteran: Prevents servants from reporting your crimes.

In Iga, you'll meet the ronin Ibuki, who's fighting corruption. Start with the "Ambush Interrupted" sidequest near Kashiwara Village using Yasuke, and follow his questline. Consistently side with and, if you choose, romance Ibuki to eventually invite him to join your organization.

Ibuki's abilities are focused on dealing impact damage:

  • Novice: Joins the fight with impact attacks.
  • Initiate: Shatters the armor of nearby enemies upon joining the fight.
  • Veteran: Increases the frequency of armor shattering during combat.

Oni-yuri

For those preferring to disable rather than kill, Oni-yuri is your ally. Begin her recruitment in Tsuruga, Wakasa, with the "Sweet Lies" sidequest. Trust in her methods throughout her quests, leading to the decision to invite her to join your league, potentially influencing her to change her ways.

Oni-yuri's abilities focus on disabling enemies:

  • Novice: Puts an enemy to sleep upon entering the fray.
  • Initiate: Releases a poison cloud affecting nearby enemies.
