A Glimpse into Rhythm-Based Combat and Boss Battles

The new Ratatan gameplay trailer offers an exciting look at the game's core mechanics, highlighted by a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab. Released during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, the trailer from Ratatan Works perfectly captures the blend of rhythm game and side-scrolling action that defines Ratatan.

The trailer demonstrates the game's unique gameplay loop, featuring online co-op for up to four players and massive melee battles with up to 100 characters. Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, with the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi returning, Ratatan successfully blends nostalgia with innovative gameplay. Its Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has already surpassed its console launch stretch goal, guaranteeing a release on multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025

According to the Kickstarter page, the Ratatan closed beta will begin on February 27, 2025. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, revealing that the game has amassed over 100,000 Steam wishlists and received positive feedback on its original soundtrack demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta, aiming for a more polished demo for the June Steam Next Fest.

Sakajiri outlined the closed beta's scope: the initial build will include Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 added throughout the month-long testing period. He also noted that "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A specific release date is yet to be announced.
