Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for some PC ports is changing. Starting after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, PSN accounts will become optional for several titles.

Games Affected:

This change impacts Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025). However, games like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn will still require PSN accounts.

Incentives for PSN Account Users:

While optional, using a PSN account provides benefits:

  • Trophies and Friend Management: Standard PSN features.
  • In-Game Bonuses:
    • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
    • God of War Ragnarök: Armor of the Black Bear set and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
    • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points and Ellie skin (Jordan’s Jacket).
    • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Nora Valiant outfit.

Sony hints at future incentives.

Past Backlash and Regional Limitations:

Previous PSN account mandates for PC games, such as Helldivers 2, faced significant criticism due to PSN's limited regional availability (approximately 70+ countries), forcing players in unsupported regions to use workarounds. Concerns about data privacy also contributed to the negative reception.

This shift suggests Sony is responding to player feedback and adapting its approach to PC gaming. The optional PSN account system offers a compromise, allowing players to choose between convenience and additional in-game rewards.
