PSA: Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Not Available for Game Redemptions via PS Plus

by Ellie Mar 04,2025

Sony's recent State of Play showcased Days Gone Remastered, but a controversial $10 upgrade policy has angered some PlayStation Plus subscribers. The upgrade is only available to those who purchased the PlayStation 4 version (disc or digital), excluding those who acquired the game through PS Plus.

This means PS Plus users, including those who received Days Gone through the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or the April 2021 Essential monthly games, must pay the full $49.99 for the PS5 remaster. This decision has sparked considerable backlash online, with many PS Plus subscribers expressing their frustration on platforms like the PlayStation Plus subreddit.

Many commenters stated they would have gladly paid the $10 upgrade fee, but will now forgo the remastered version entirely. Several users highlighted the potential lost revenue for Sony, arguing that even a small upgrade fee from a large number of PS Plus users would have been substantial. One user pointed out that giving away the game for free initially meant foregoing potential revenue, yet Sony's restrictive upgrade policy further limits potential earnings. Others criticized the remaster itself, questioning its necessity.

While some PS Plus subscribers understand Sony's likely cost-benefit analysis behind this decision, many are criticizing the company's perceived stinginess, particularly among its loyal fanbase. The Days Gone Remastered upgrade controversy follows other PlayStation State of Play February 2025 announcements. For a complete list, see IGN's State of Play February 2025 roundup.
