Pokemon Sleep Starts Transition to Pokemon Works as Main Developer
Pokémon Sleep Development Transitioned to Pokémon Works
The Pokémon Company's subsidiary, Pokémon Works, will assume development and future updates of Pokémon Sleep from Select Button. This transition was announced via an in-app notice on the Japanese version of Pokémon Sleep. The impact on the global version remains unclear.
Select Button, the original developer, will hand over the reins to Pokémon Works, a newly established subsidiary of The Pokémon Company. This shift follows the March 2024 launch of Pokémon Works, fueling speculation regarding its future projects. The announcement within the Pokémon Sleep app stated that development and operation will gradually transfer.
Pokémon Works' background remains somewhat mysterious. However, its representative director, Takuya Iwasaki, described it as a development team formed from The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd. The company's website also mentions contributions to Pokémon HOME development. Their Tokyo location is reportedly near ILCA, known for its work on Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Pokémon HOME.
Iwasaki's statement emphasizes Pokémon Works' goal of creating "an experience that makes Pokémon more real," enhancing player interaction and adventure with Pokémon. The specific application of this vision to Pokémon Sleep remains to be seen. The transition is currently underway, and players can anticipate further updates as the change unfolds.
