Sony has donated $5 million to aid first responders, community recovery, and support programs for those impacted by the devastating wildfires currently engulfing Southern California.

In a joint statement on X/Twitter, Sony Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and President and COO Hiroki Totoki expressed their commitment, stating, "Los Angeles has been the home of our entertainment business for more than 35 years. We will continue to work with local business leadership to determine how best Sony Group can support relief and recovery efforts in the days ahead."

The crisis, which began on January 7th, continues to ravage the greater Los Angeles area, with three wildfires still actively spreading. The BBC reports at least 24 fatalities and 23 missing persons in the two largest affected areas, as firefighters prepare for challenging conditions with anticipated strengthening winds.

Sony's contribution joins those of other corporations supporting wildfire relief efforts. According to CNBC, Disney pledged $15 million, Netflix and Comcast each contributed $10 million, the NFL donated $5 million, Walmart gave $2.5 million, and Fox donated $1 million, among other corporate donations.
