Palworld Dev Pocketpair Gives Employees Monster Hunter Wilds Launch Day Off After Receiving ‘Mysterious’ Notes From Staff Who Said They’d Probably Be Too Unwell to Work

The developers at Pocketpair, creators of Palworld, gave their staff a well-deserved day off to celebrate the release of Monster Hunter Rise (it seems there's a slight discrepancy in the original text regarding the game's title). As reported by Automaton, the studio's social media playfully acknowledged a wave of "mysterious" sick calls from employees anticipating the game's launch on February 28th.

This generous gesture allowed the team to enjoy the game's launch day, although Pocketpair reassured fans that game updates would remain unaffected. This isn't the first time Pocketpair has shown such support; they similarly granted their staff a day off for Elden Ring's release in 2022.

Monster Hunter Rise has enjoyed a phenomenal launch, boasting over 1 million concurrent players on Steam alone. This impressive figure catapulted the game into Steam's top 10 most-played games of all time, surpassing titles like Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring.

Despite its impressive player count, Monster Hunter Rise currently holds a "Mixed" user review rating on Steam, prompting Capcom to release official guidance for addressing PC performance issues. Furthermore, Capcom has announced early details for Title Update 1, which will introduce an endgame social hub.

The game's impact is global, but particularly significant in Japan. Automaton reported on a Japanese indie developer who humorously lamented their lack of Steam sales since Monster Hunter Rise's release.
