Overture DLC Not Linked to Base Game's Final Cutscene, Says Lies of P Director

by Violet Apr 20,2025

Ever since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. However, at the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN discovered that one particular mystery—the game's surprising final cutscene—won't be addressed in the DLC.

For those who haven't completed Lies of P yet, here's a spoiler-free summary: the final cutscene hints at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe. This twist has sparked much discussion among fans about its implications and whether it would be explored in the DLC. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that the cutscene is not related to Overture. He cryptically added, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Given that Neowiz has announced a full sequel to Lies of P, it's likely that this cutscene pertains to the sequel instead. Details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce, with only confirmation that it is in development. Choi remained tight-lipped about the sequel during our conversation, emphasizing Neowiz's commitment to quality:

"What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

PlayThe scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the Dorothy scene. As detailed in our previous coverage, the final cutscene features Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning that he will "find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals Dorothy's iconic striped socks and ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, suggesting that future developments in the Lies of P universe will connect with other public domain fairy tales. However, how and why this connection will be made remains a mystery, and it won't be explained in Overture.

SPOILERS END HERE.

PlayWhile the Dorothy scene won't be part of Overture, Choi did provide some insights into what players can expect from the DLC. He advised fans to replay the base game to catch the hints scattered throughout:

"When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi said. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in the expansion."

Choi also noted that some fans have already begun piecing together Neowiz's plans, as he frequently reads online fan theories and finds that "some of them are quite close."

Additionally, Choi shared that the DLC, which serves as a prequel, will take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. It will become available after reaching a "certain" chapter in the base game and can be accessed up to the end. Overture will transport the main character back in time to Krat just before its fall, featuring new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons. While Choi kept the specifics under wraps, he promised an exciting addition to the Lies of P universe.
