Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi

Capcom recently showcased new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play presentation, finally confirmed the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.

The trailer offered a compelling look at the game's sword-focused combat and impressive enemy designs. While still over two years away, the visuals are striking, promising a thrilling action experience.

PlayThe game will feature Musashi's renowned swordsmanship, but also highlights a more playful, comedic side to his personality.

Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game, starring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a renowned Japanese actor famous for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.

The setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
